High-school students from 8 counties across Virginia will compete as state finalists in a recitation contest at the annual Virginia Poetry Out Loud State Finals on March 8, from 2pm to 4 p.m.
Hosted by "The Lady Gaga of Poetry"(The Kenyan Review) Regie Cabico, this live event will take place at the Wayne Theatre with an option to livestream the event available for those who cannot make the event.
As an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, The Poetry Foundation, the Virginia Commission of the Arts, and Administered by the Wayne Theatre, Poetry Out Loud encourages high-school students to learn about poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. Participants master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.
