Topic:  Parks, Trails & Events – Waynesboro’s Next Economic Engine with guest speaker: Dwayne Jones, Director of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Department

Waynesboro is on the verge of an outdoor economic boom!  Sitting at the doorstep to the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park, our little hamlet is perfectly poised to benefit from the 1000’s of travelers passing by each month.  Parks and Recreation’s vision is to expand its high-quality parks, facilities and programs to connect people to nature and each other.  Our parks and programs provide something for everyone in our community and draw people to Waynesboro from around the region.  Projects such as Sunset Park, greenway trails, South River Preserve and the historic Crozet Tunnel are all on the horizon and will shape Waynesboro’s outdoor economic future for years to come.

Speaker: Dwayne Jones, Director of Waynesboro Parks & Recreation Department

Dwayne Jones, Director of Parks and Recreation Department, has spent the past 26 years fervently guiding countless projects and improvements to Waynesboro’s parks, trails and events, and he is passionate about sharing his vision of Waynesboro’s future.  He is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Landscape Design & Horticulture and oversees all parks & recreation operations including sports programs, special events, construction projects, park master planning, budget administration and turf & horticulture operations.  He is President of the Blue Ridge Tunnel Foundation and has been a strong advocate for connecting Waynesboro to this historical resource.
