POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Development Director is a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for the organization’s fundraising initiatives, donor relations and public relations plan. The successful candidate will implement a multi-level development plan that will include managing individual and corporate and gifts, foundation grants, endowment, special events, planned and annual giving campaigns, and direct mail efforts. Duties include overseeing and managing fundraising efforts, strengthening and diversifying successful relationships and maintaining communications with donors and collaborating with the development team to effectively execute all fundraising events and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
The Development Director will possess the following skills and experience:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, or related field
2. 5+ years of direct fundraising experience
3. Track record of success in meeting fundraising goals
4. Demonstrated project and team management, organization, delegation, and prioritization skills
5. Superior public speaking, oral, and written communication skills
6. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with the development team, colleagues, volunteers, and donors
7. Confidentiality-specifically of donor records and clients served
8. Self-directed-can work with minimal supervision
9. Working knowledge of computers, word processing and database management
10. Willingness to use own mode of transportation in job capacity and possession of valid Virginia driver’s license
11. Commitment to the Wayne Theatre’s mission and program goals
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Identify, cultivate, pursue and retain major donor, contributor, sponsor, and advertising support
2. Collaborates with the Wayne Theatre leadership team to coordinate annual fundraising targets with organizational strategic objectives and implement efforts to secure new and untapped resources
3. Assist the Executive Director, Board, and Development Committee members to develop, strengthen, and maintain strong relationships with all major and individual donors, sponsors, and advertisers, corporations, government agencies, and foundations
4. Conducts and records outcome of measurable number of face-to-face visits with donor prospects to solicit major and planned gifts
5. Communicate regularly with the development team to strategize about status of stewardship, prospecting, proposals, and appeals; evaluates areas needing focus and growth
6. Draft annual and special appeals to build individual giving base
7. Assist with the development and growth of the endowment fund
8. Assist the Executive Director, Development Committee, and other Committees to produce special annual events (e.g. Gala, Giving Tuesday, et al)
9. Receive, acknowledge and track all donor contributions, pledges, in-kind donations and other payments
10. Maintain updated mailing lists, donor lists and donor profiles
11. Analyze fundraising data and prepare reports
12. Provides guidance for reports and tracks performance against development plan.
13. Oversee the design and production of the organization’s communications relative to donor appreciation and recognition, print and electronic appeals, stewardship communication, and meeting packets
14. Assist Finance Director with research and writing grant proposals
15. Represents the Wayne Theatre publicly when the Executive Director cannot
16. Assist with program evaluation and the development and production of the Wayne Theatre’s annual report
17. Participate actively in leadership team meetings to strategize and position the Wayne Theatre for the future
18. Coordinates weekly and monthly meetings with the Development Committee providing the necessary reports
