Set Design: The Lion King Edition
May 29

For rising 6th-12th grade students, Set Design students will work with a Studio Wayne Artist to learn some of the basics of set design and construction. Using Studio Wayne's productions of "The Lion King," these students will work with the Lion King set designer to create and incorporate set pieces for our production.

Session meets weekly on Saturdays from 12:30pm-2pm beginning on May 29th 2021 through June 19, 2021. Students are also required to attend Technical Rehearsals for both Lion King presentations (JR and Kids) on June 16 from 6-8pm and June 23 from 6-9pm.The weekly sessions will take place in-person at the Wayne Theatre Stage or Studio Wayne, just 3 doors up from the Wayne Theatre. The technical rehearsals will take place in the theatre.

Costume Design: The Lion King Edition

For rising 6th-12th grade students, Costume Design students will work with a Studio Wayne Artist to learn some of the basics of costume design. Using Studio Wayne's productions of "The Lion King," these students will work with the Lion King costume designer to create pieces for our production and see their work come to life onstage!

Session meets weekly from 12:30-2pm beginning May 29 through June 19. Students will also attend Tech rehearsals on June 16th (6/8pm) and June 23rd (6-9pm).

These sessions will take place in-person at the Wayne Theatre Greenroom (backstage).

Music & Me: Preschool 1

Age range:  2-3 years old with parent.  Sing, dance, move, play instruments, explore and engage in music! Music & Me encourages your child to be creative, to initiate his/her own ideas, and to respond in his/her own ways. Active parent participation is required.

Session meets weekly on Tuesdays from 9:30am-10am beginning on June 1, 2021 with the final session on June 29, 2021.

Imagination Stage

For rising 1st- 5th Grade students.  Focusing on physical theatre and acting, these young artists will hone their creativity, build confidence, and explore the idea that “All the World’s A Stage.” Students will develop the skills to create new characters and bring them to life through improvised play. We will celebrate our final class with a demonstration of the things we have been working on all week.

Session meets for one week, Tuesday through Friday from, June 1- June 4, 2021, from 9:30am-11:30am.

Voice Masterclass with Professional Guest Artist

For students aged 13 and above.  In this voice masterclass, professional music director Matthew Stephens will give both group and individual coaching on vocal technique, style and song interpretation, with a focus on musicality and communicating text to an audience. Students will come prepared with 1 or 2 audition cuts of songs (16-32 bars each) to work on with Matthew.

Session meets for one afternoon, Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 3pm-6pm

Stage Makeup: The Lion King Edition

For rising 6th-12th grade students, a rare hands-on experience with one of the most iconic makeup spectacles in Broadway history! Learning principles of stage makeup design, students will choose a character from the Lion King and see it through the full creative process, including concept, design, rendering and application. Students will supervise makeup for the Wayne's production of The Lion King Experience KIDS and The Lion King Jr, and see their designs come to life onstage.

For rising 6th-12th graders. In this hands-on class, students will learn the importance of props in a theatrical production & how to design props for a production. Under the direction of Lesley Larsen, students will design a prop for Studio Wayne's production of The Lion King and will work together to see their designs come to life on stage.

Stories On Stage
June 7

For rising 4th-8th Grade students.  Bring your favorite stories to life ..... on stage! In Stories on Stage, students will start with hilariously clever storybooks and turn them into live performances. They'll learn details of script development, character choices, improvisation and physical movement. They will showcase their performance during the final day of class.

Spectacle: Theatrical Tools & Tricks of the Trade

For rising 4th-12th Grade students.  Have you ever seen something neat happen on stage and wondered, "How did they do that?" Well, in this Spectacle: Theatrical Tricks and Tools of the Trade course, Studio Wayne students will get the opportunity to work with a variety of professionals to see how we make the magic happen. But remember, a Techie never reveals their secrets!

Session meets daily for one week, Monday through Thursday from, June 14- June 18, 2021, from 9:30am-11am.

Advanced Improv

For rising 8th-12th graders, students will work with artist Lesley Larsen to develop advanced improv skills such as extended scene work and long-form improv. They will develop skills of spontaneity, creativity, improvisation, and confidence. The course ends with a demonstration during the final class, and an invitation to audition for upcoming improv performance opportunities through Studio Wayne. Previous completion of a Studio Wayne Basic Improv class (or an equivalent class) required.

Session meets weekly from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, beginning on June 21 with the final session on June 25, 2021.These sessions will take place in-person on stage at the Wayne Theatre or in our new space, Studio Wayne, just three doors down from the theatre.  We will let you know the location prior to the start date.

Theatre Dance & Movement

For 8th-12th Grade Students. Get up and get moving... on stage! In this Theatre Dance and Movement class, students will learn how to use their bodies to tell stories, create pictures and polish performances. They'll practice basic techniques in a variety of different styles including Broadway, Hip Hop, Jazz and more!

Classes meet for one week, Monday through Friday 9:30am-11am EST June 21-25, 2021.These sessions will take place in-person at our new space, Studio Wayne, just three doors down from the theatre.

Rhythm & Blues: Elementary Music

For rising 1st-5th Grade students.  Learn the foundation of rhythm, pitch and musicality through songs, games, movement and lots of fun! We will explore a variety of music styles, play and create instruments, learn silly songs and more as we work up a sweat and expend some creative energy!
