Wayne Theatre Presents Jane Austen’s Persuasion in a New Stage Adaptation by Melissa Leilani Larson

Waynesboro, VA - The Historic Wayne Theatre is proud to announce its upcoming production of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Melissa Leilani Larson. This beautifully rendered interpretation of Austen’s final novel invites audiences into a story of reflection, resilience, and second chances, brought to life through elegant staging and thoughtful performances.

Set in early nineteenth-century England, Persuasion follows Anne Elliot, a woman who once allowed herself to be guided into giving up the man she loved. When Captain Frederick Wentworth reenters her life years later, Anne must confront her past decisions and the hope that renewal may still be possible. Larson’s adaptation remains faithful to Austen’s language and themes while offering a fresh theatrical lens that highlights the emotional depth and gentle humor of this beloved story.

“This is one of Jane Austen’s most tender and introspective works,” said Tracy Straight, Executive Director of the Wayne Theatre. “It explores how time, regret, and personal growth shape the heart. We are thrilled to share a production that honors Austen’s voice while giving audiences an unforgettable live experience.”

Persuasion is suitable for families and offers meaningful connections for longtime Austen admirers and newcomers alike. The production reflects the Wayne Theatre’s ongoing commitment to presenting high-quality arts experiences that enrich and inspire the community.
